Barry Nilsson and Young Insurance Professionals are thrilled to announce the winner of the 2025 Next Gen Insurance Leader Award. Congratulations to Sophie Power from Allianz Commercial for taking out the title, along with a $5,000 cash prize.
Now in its seventh year, the Next Gen Insurance Leader Award recognises business and leadership potential, and encourages and supports the development of young insurance professionals throughout Australia and New Zealand.
This year's submission guidelines provided the opportunity to explore critical issues affecting the insurance sector, including climate change and natural disaster risk, geopolitical instability and emerging risks, the role of artificial intelligence, and intergenerational inclusion in the workforce. A second component invited participants to reflect on their chosen issue and identify the leadership qualities most important for driving meaningful change within the insurance industry.
Amongst a record-breaking number of submissions, Sophie produced a compelling proposal on balancing affordability, coverage, and sustainability in Australia's insurance market amid rising natural disasters, outlining practical strategies such as modular "build-your-own" cover and resilience incentives to help insurers and policyholders adapt to climate change.
Congratulations also go to this year's finalists, Andrew Wu (bolttech) and Grady Tyson (Unique Building Services Pty Ltd) for their outstanding submissions.
