We are delighted to announce that Brinsley Dresden, partner and co-head of the firm's Advertising & Marketing practice, has been appointed a Trustee of the History of Advertising Trust (HAT).
His selection by HAT, alongside three other senior industry figures, comes as the charity prepares to mark its 50th anniversary and underscores Lewis Silkin's longstanding commitment to safeguarding the past, present and future of brand communication.
Founded in 1976, the History of Advertising Trust preserves the world's most comprehensive archive of UK advertising, housing more than seven million items spanning press, television, cinema, outdoor, direct mail and digital campaigns. From its headquarters in Norfolk, the charity supports scholarship, commercial research and public engagement, making advertising's rich legacy accessible to brand owners, agencies, academics and the general public.
The charity identified the law as a critical area of knowledge required to protect and advance its nationally significant archive, and Brinsley will contribute particular insight into the complex questions of licensing, brand protection and rights management that increasingly arise as heritage assets are monetised in new ways.
Commenting on his new role, Brinsley Dresden said:
"HAT has demonstrated strong governance over the years
and I'm looking forward to helping the team navigate the world
of licensing at a time when consumers are developing a taste for
heritage merchandise and brands are looking to protect their
assets."
