Torys is pleased to announce that Senior Counsel Arif Virani has been featured in the Canadian Lawyer Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers list, recognizing his distinguished record of legal excellence, leadership and public service.
The influence Arif has had on Canada's legal landscape is immense. Before joining Torys, Arif served as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, overseeing the administration of Canada's justice system, providing strategic counsel to the federal government, and representing Canada internationally at meetings of the Commonwealth, the UN and the G7.
In this role, Arif championed several initiatives to advance Canada's justice system, including streamlining the process and pace of judicial appointments, advancing a wide range of legislation, and developing access-to-justice strategies to serve diverse Canadian communities.
Prior to his Ministerial appointment, Arif served as Parliamentary Secretary to numerous federal Ministers; completed three consecutive mandates as a Member of Parliament; and was Crown Counsel for the Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario in the Constitutional Law Branch.
