Speaking recently with The Canadian Press about new U.S. tariffs imposed on Canadian goods, Jacques J. M. Shore, C.M., Government Affairs and Trade partner in Gowling WLG’s Ottawa office, emphasized the importance of discipline and strategy in Canada’s approach to international trade disputes.
Shore underscored that measured, thoughtful responses are often more effective than retaliation. “Canada needs to continue to play it smart,” he said. "Sometimes you flex your muscles best by being disciplined..." Using a hockey analogy, he added: “I think that what we need to do… is keep your head up and skate hard to the goal.”
