(New York, NY, June 19, 2025) Carter Ledyard is pleased to
announce that we assisted our client, Maple Leaf Foods, in making
significant progress toward the spin-off of its pork division to
form a new company, Canada Packing. Maple Leaf Foods shareholders
approved the proposed spinoff on June 11th. The
transaction is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025
pending receipt of an advance tax ruling and satisfaction of other
customary closing conditions. The Firm’s Canada Cross-Border
group advised on the US aspects of this strategic split.
CLM partner Guy Lander led the matter, with tax chair Melinda
Fellner providing tax services and support from associates Paul J.
Brown III and Nikolaos Chagias, and paralegal Marianne
Bellucci.
