Yemen is widely regarded as the birthplace of coffee, where small-scale farmers still cultivate beans at high altitudes and use traditional sun-drying methods that produce complex, often fruit-forward flavors commanding premium prices. The Qahwah House played a key role in introducing this coffee culture to the U.S., opening its first location in Dearborn, Michigan, in 2017, and has since expanded to about 25 stores nationwide with more planned. More than just coffee shops, these Yemeni cafés focus on fostering community, serving as welcoming late-night gathering spots that offer traditional beverages like qishir and Yemeni lattes, while regularly hosting cultural events.
