Andersen in South Africa is pleased to announce the appointment of Brandon Irsigler as Partner in the firm's Johannesburg office. Brandon joins the corporate practice group, bringing extensive M&A and commercial experience across mining, energy and various major industries.
Brandon brings over two decades of distinguished legal experience spanning both in-house counsel roles and private practice. Most recently, he served as Head of Mining for Africa at Dentons until late 2023. Prior to that, he was a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright and held senior legal positions at Anglo American, including Head of Commercial and Litigation for Anglo American South Africa, with international assignments in London and São Paulo.

Extensive Mining and Energy Expertise
Brandon's experience encompasses the full spectrum of mining operations, from upstream exploration to downstream processing. His expertise includes mining rights acquisition, mine construction and operational matters, B-BBEE compliance and complex financing structures including streaming and royalty arrangements across major mining jurisdictions globally.
Notable recent engagements include managing copper and cobalt asset acquisitions worth $4.5 billion across African regions, guiding Eskom through power purchase agreements valued at ZAR 16 billion across six renewable energy projects, and leading the proposed ZAR 3.5 billion delisting of a major industrial equipment manufacturer from the JSE.
Global Reach
Throughout his career, Brandon has advised clients across multiple jurisdictions, including South Africa, Dubai, Australia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Zambia, Kazakhstan and Madagascar. He has also provided stakeholder guidance to Eskom and advised on marketplace regulation in determining rules for grid infrastructure access. Additionally, Brandon assisted a US client with acquiring a mining operation in Madagascar and aided clients in removing their names and companies from the US Treasury's OFAC sanctions program. He has recently advised key members of cabinet on the industry impact of proposed amendments to the South African mining legislation.
