Bass, Berry & Sims attorney Lillian Blackshear was honored as the recipient of the R.B.J. Campbelle, Jr. Award by the University of Tennessee Winston College of Law. This award is named after the College’s first African American graduate and recognizes extraordinary efforts to advance equality and justice. Lillian received the award at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Julian Blackshear, Jr. Scholarship Gala.
In a recap of the event for an online article, the College summarized Lillian’s keynote address noting she “highlighted the importance of perseverance, service, and using one’s legal skills to uplift communities. She called upon young lawyers to practice with courage and to honor the legacy of those who came before by championing justice and equality.” The summary of the event can be found here.
Lillian advises clients in public finance transactions, helping them navigate the complexities of state law, federal tax and federal securities issues related to deals. She represents an array of governmental entities, investment banks and commercial banks on debt issuances throughout Tennessee. She has extensive experience in the drafting and reviewing of authorizing, disclosure, sale and closing documents – the critical components of a successful public financing deal.
