Cox & Palmer is delighted to be participating in the St. Francis Xavier University (St. F.X.) Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy and Governance (PGOV) student internship program in the summer of 2025. St. F.X. is home to the Brian Mulroney Institute of Government, one of the few institutes dedicated to the study of public policy and governance at the undergraduate level.
The first course in Local Government was offered at St. F.X. in 2023. The PGOV includes a student internship program to provide students with the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real world challenges. At Cox & Palmer, we believe in this program – and the value it can bring to advancing the work of local government in Nova Scotia.
We are pleased to announce that Sophie Gallant is our student intern this summer. She will be involved in some of the challenging files that affect Nova Scotia’s municipal governments with particular reference to governance reform, organizational design, municipal service delivery, financial hygiene, infrastructure renewal and environmental sustainability.
We expect the PGOV student internship program will be of interest, and of value, to many local governments in Nova Scotia. Through collaboration with our municipal clients, Sophie will have an opportunity to gain hands-on practical experience and mentorship working with local government. We also expect that our firm and clients will be exposed to some of the new thinking of emerging young leaders that Sophie will provide.
Further information on the PGOV program can be obtained by contacting Kevin Latimer at klatimer@coxandpalmer.com.
