Today, Walkers marks International Blue Iguana Day by celebrating the extraordinary strides made in protecting one of the world's rarest reptiles – the Blue Iguana, Grand Cayman's largest native land animal.

For over 35 years, the National Trust for the Cayman Islands has led dedicated conservation efforts to restore this critically endangered species. We have proudly supported the Blue Iguana Conservation Programme for more than two decades, contributing to a legacy of preservation and environmental sustainability.

From an estimated wild population of just 30 Blue Iguanas in the early 2000's to over 1,200 today, the Blue Iguana Conservation Programme stands as a testament to the success of collaborative conservation.

As part of our ongoing support, we continue to sponsor our very own, Iggy Stardust, one of the Blue Iguanas in the care of the National Trust. Our plush mascot, Iggy, also makes appearances at events in the Cayman Islands and around the globe, helping to raise awareness of the programme and its impact.

This year, we launched an internal design competition across our 10 global offices to reimagine Iggy’s look. The winning design will be unveiled later this summer and used in future awareness campaigns and community events.

Rob Jackson, Walkers Cayman Office Managing Partner, stated: "We're proud to continue our longstanding support of the National Trust for the Cayman Islands and the vital work they do. Our sponsorship of the Blue Iguana Conservation Programme is a reflection of our firm's commitment to sustainability, community engagement and preserving the natural environment that makes the Cayman Islands so special."
