Managing IP (MIP) has named Gowling WLG the Canadian "Firm of the Year – Trademark Disputes" at its 2025 Americas Awards ceremony, held last night at Gotham Hall in New York City. The firm was recognized for its outstanding work in helping clients protect and defend their brands in high-stakes disputes across the country.
In addition, Nelson Godfrey, Gowling WLG partner and head of the firm's Canadian Trademarks Group, received the individual honour of "Practitioner of the Year (Trademark Disputes)," highlighting his leadership and advocacy in Canada's IP litigation landscape. Ottawa-based partner Martha Savoy attended the ceremony in New York alongside Godfrey to accept the awards.
Gowling WLG was also shortlisted as Canadian "Firm of the Year" in five additional categories: Copyright, Patent Prosecution, Patent Disputes, Trademark Prosecution and IP Transactions. Partners Lori Hall (Trademark Prosecution), Omar Nassif (Patent Prosecution) and Michael Crichton (Patent Disputes) were shortlisted for individual Practitioner of the Year awards.
The win follows the firm's recent success at the 2025 MIP EMEA Awards in London earlier this month, where Gowling WLG received the "UK Impact Case of the Year" award for its role in the landmark InterDigital v Lenovo (2024) decision. The award-winning team included Alexandra Brodie, Michael Carter, Felicity Wade-Palmer, Alex Driver and Andrew Maggs.
