Foley partner Larry Vernaglia, co-chair of the firm's Providers of Health Care Services Area of Focus, and senior counsel Allie Shalom, co-chair of the firm's Payor/Provider Convergence Area of Focus, are speaking in Healthcare Financial Management Association's upcoming webinar titled "Private Equity and Health Care – A Policy Discussion" on April 30.

The webinar will include a review of private equity investments in health care and their impact on spending, quality, and access for patients. Speakers will discuss both the national landscape as well as what is happening in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The new Massachusetts law "an Act enhancing the market review process," which contains health care market reforms, including oversight and transparency provisions around private equity, will also be reviewed. Experts from the Massachusetts Health Policy Commission staff and health care regulatory counsel will weigh in on these timely topics.

After the presentation, the audience should be able to:

  • Understand the impact of private equity investments on health care spending, quality, and patient access, with a focus on both national trends and specific developments in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
  • Analyze the implications of the new Massachusetts law "an Act enhancing the market review process" regarding health care market reforms, oversight, and transparency related to private equity investments.
  • Gain insights from experts on the regulatory landscape and health care policy considerations surrounding private equity in the health care sector.
