New York – Global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Derek Lacarrubba as a partner in its Asset Management and Investment Funds practice. He joins the firm's New York office from Schulte Roth & Zabel LLP.

Lacarrubba assists broker-dealers, hedge funds, and asset managers on matters arising under the rules of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and various self-regulatory organizations including the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the National Futures Association, and various securities and futures exchanges. He advises broker-dealer and asset manager clients on a wide range of regulatory issues, with a focus on equity and futures trading practices, alternative trading system regulation, best execution practices, and compliance with Regulation SHO, Regulation M, Regulation NMS, and the Market Access Rule. Lacarrubba also focuses on various regulatory reporting regimes, advising clients or representing them in enforcement actions related to Consolidated Audit Trail (CAT), Trade Reporting Facility (TRF), Trade Reporting and Compliance Engine (TRACE), Electronic Blue Sheets (EBS), LOPR (Large Options Position Reporting), and SEC Rule 13f-2 (short position reporting).

Lacarrubba also advises broker-dealers and hedge funds on anti-money laundering and sanctions regulations, with a focus on AML programs designed to detect and mitigate the risks of securities fraud and market manipulation. He counsels on a wide array of products, including cash equities, OTC and listed options, swaps, futures, and fixed-income instruments.

In addition to advisory work, Lacarrubba represents buy-side and sell-side firms in regulatory investigations and enforcement actions. Before entering private practice, he was an auditor, risk consultant and member of the in-house counsel team at a bulge bracket investment bank.

"Derek is a skilled broker-dealer lawyer with significant regulatory and enforcement experience," said Michael Caccese, K&L Gates chairman and a leader of the firm's global Asset Management and Investment Funds practice area. "He expands our broker-dealer service offering in New York and around the globe and bolsters our asset management capabilities to clients. We are thrilled to have him join our team."

The addition of Lacarrubba follows the arrival of former CFTC lawyer Sarah Riddell to the Asset Management and Investment Funds practice in Chicago. The firm's New York office recently welcomed partners Todd Fishman to its Commercial Disputes practice and Maria Cáceres-Boneau to its Labor, Employment, and Workplace Safety practice.
