Speaking recently with CTV News and Global News, Ted Betts, head of infrastructure and construction at Gowling WLG, weighed in on the impact of newly imposed U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum. The tariffs, introduced by the U.S. government, are expected to drive up costs across the construction industry in both Canada and the United States.

"The pricing will have an impact on construction projects in the United States. Prices will go up; inflation will go up. It will also impact Canada and all the construction projects going on in the country," said Betts to CTV News.

With Global News, Ted explained how rising material costs could force project delays:

"If you add one per cent to four per cent increases in the cost of a project. If you haven't started the project yet, you might start to think, well, maybe we should wait until this settles down a bit."
