The Malaysian Government will introduce the Euro-5 standards as
the Malaysia Petrol Standards and the Malaysia Diesel Standards.
For this purpose, the First and Second Schedules of the
Environmental Quality (Control of Petrol and Diesel Properties)
Regulations 2007 which respectively set out the Malaysian Petrol
Standards and the Malaysian Diesel Standards will be replaced by
the new First and Second Schedules set out in
the Environmental Quality (Control of Petrol and
Diesel Properties) (Amendment) Regulations
2021 gazetted on 26 March 2021.
The requirements for various properties comprised in the two
standards and applicable test methods will be introduced on a
staggered basis, with the new requirements for the Malaysian Petrol
Standards being introduced from 1 September 2025 to 1 September
2027, and those for the Malaysian Diesel Standards being introduced
from 1 April 2021 to 1 April 2023.
The new and more environmentally friendly standards will be
welcomed in the country's quest to reduce carbon emissions.
