Guernsey plays host to the Channel Islands' first Sustainable Finance Week in June
Building on Guernsey's global leadership across sustainable finance and private wealth, Sustainable Finance Week will bring together leading sustainable finance experts, private wealth and family office professionals, advisers and private investors from the UK, Switzerland and Guernsey for a week long discussion and dialogue on the issue of financing sustainability through private wealth portfolios.
Dr Andy Sloan of Guernsey Green Finance said he hopes the event will provide a practical forum to make a small but important contribution to the global sustainability agenda.
"Guernsey's Sustainable Finance Week has a specific and perhaps unique focus - how to best leverage private wealth and capital to address the issue of climate change and the sustainability agenda," he said.
"Report after report suggests there is a tsunami of private capital that could be unleashed to serve the cause of sustainability. We will be bringing together private wealth advisors and professionals, experts in sustainable Finance and family offices and investors together for a week's dialogue to search for answers to how to unleash that capital."
Opened by the island's Lt-Governor, Sir Ian Corder, the week will comprise a cornerstone sustainable finance conference, supported by a secondary philanthropy and family office conference and several fringe events organised by Guernsey's finance sector associations and firms.
The cornerstone conference will focus on green and sustainable finance and ESG investing, posing the central question of how private wealth can help drive the transition to a sustainable economy.
Panellists and speakers will include leading private wealth practitioners and sustainability experts from London and Switzerland and Guernsey professionals and wealthy private investors active in the sustainable arena.
A pre-conference workshop run by the Centre for Sustainable Finance & Private Wealth, University of Zurich, will also take place on Tuesday 9 June, while a separate short conference focusing on philanthropy and family offices will take place on Thursday 11 June.
Confirmed fringe organisers already include the Guernsey Institute of Directors and the Chamber of Commerce.
