THERE are plans to form a new finance centre Legislation Committee. Finance Centre Director Anthony Fisher explained that the new Committee will perform a number of functions in the area of financial services.
"The Legislation Committee will help to co-ordinate the development of new laws that will keep Gibraltar competitive and at the forefront of product development," said Mr Fisher. "It will be a think-tank to modernise the legislative infrastructure; it will help to speed up the process of introducing new laws into Gibraltar, because there will be co-ordination between representatives from Government, the private sector and the key industry associations."
The Committee will be chaired by the Minister for Trade and Industry, Peter Montegriffo, and, in addition to Anthony Fisher, includes Peter Rodney of the Legislation Support Unit, David Faria of Companies House, Peter A Isola of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), Robert Vasquez, Bar Council, Chris White (taxation) and Nigel Feetham (specific products such as redomiciliation and PCCs).
"This Committee will bring together the key components to make the development and passing of legislation a much more dynamic and efficient process," said Mr Fisher. "This will be very important for the finance centre in keeping it one step ahead."
Gib Finance In German Language
THE first issue of a German-language financial magazine has just been published. XXI - Offshore Financial Services for the 21st Century is published by Century Worldwide Ltd and edited here in Gibraltar by Liberty Media Consultants Ltd.
The winter 1998/99 issue, which is sponsored by Bank Leu, contains various articles and special features on the Gibraltar finance centre. Financial publications from Gibraltar have mostly been in English, so this new magazine will help to cater for the increasing number of German-speaking investors attracted to the Rock.

PROSPECTIVE users of the Gibraltar Finance Centre in Europort can now inspect the new premises on QuickTime VR, the latest in web technology.
