The Labour Ministry has amended the regulations for work permits for foreign employees in Ukraine. With effect from October 1996 the exemption from work permit requirements previously available to foreign managers employed in Ukraine has been cancelled and they must have a valid work permit issued by the National Employment Centre of the Labour Ministry. The state duty for obtaining a permit is UAH 170 (around US $100).

Action: All foreign individuals working in Ukraine are theoretically subject to the work permit requirement and consideration should be given to complying with the law. It should be noted that at present the law is not actively enforced.
