Zambian entities and other companies doing business in Zambia will soon experience a renewed focus on competition enforcement from the country's competition authorities.

The new Zambian competition legislation created the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission and the Competition Tribunal. For the past two years, the Competition Tribunal has only existed on paper, which made it difficult for the Commission to enforce its directives and decisions. Parties aggrieved by the Commission's decisions were also left without a remedy as they could not take their appeals to the Tribunal. The Tribunal was expected to have its first hearing on Monday 8 October 2012
