Shearman & Sterling received the Gold Winner award at the 2022 International Interior Design Awards (IIDA). The global law firm reimagined its New York global headquarters in partnership with global architectural firm Perkins&Will, intending to create a workplace that anticipated the evolving needs of its growing and diverse talent base, and that would continue to support excellence in client service.

Shearman & Sterling elected to redesign its office in 599 Lexington Avenue before the COVID-19 pandemic. The 340,000-square-foot space's human-centric model — which features high-performance technologies, design-balance, natural patterns, a customizable light and shade system to align with the body's circadian rhythms, bright textural art, and more — is designed to make the firm's people and clients feel both comfortable and cared for, and create a home-away-from-home atmosphere in the workplace.

"We are delighted to be recognized at the 2022 International Interior Design Awards as Gold Winner. In partnership with Perkins&Will, we reimagined our office with our people, clients and global communities in mind, and thoughtfully curated our space in a way that is simultaneously human-centric and built for a more digitized future," said Arsha Cazazian-Clement, Director of Global Real Estate for Shearman & Sterling.

Shearman & Sterling is the first global law firm to participate in WELL Building Standard (WELL) at an enterprise scale, committing its 22 global offices to pursue the WELL rating. The firm's New York City headquarters is also on track for LEED Gold certification, a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement and leadership.

IIDA honor achievement in outstanding interior architecture and design that encourages and uses innovative interior design ideas, techniques, and furnishings.
