Slovak News - Jan 97 - Employment Law

Slovakia Litigation, Mediation & Arbitration
There is a new consolidated law on employment, effective from 1 January 1997:

The new law changes to the Employment Fund contributions to contributions for Insurance Against Unemployment, which shall be paid to the base fund of the National Employment Office. The contribution rate remains the same, i.e. 1% for the employee and 3% for the employer from the assessed tax base.

The newly formed National Employment Office (NUP) represents the former Employment Fund, Employment Services Administrations (Spravy slu ieb zamestnanosti) and Employment Offices. It has 8 territorial offices and 79 district employment offices. NUP takes over all the commitments of the former bodies and institutions.

The new law includes regulations about the employment of foreign people in Slovakia and also their legal and employment relations in the country.
