The practice of collecting photocopies of identity documents from individuals checking in at accommodation facilities is coming to an end.

The Personal Data Protection Board Decision on the Recording of Photocopies of Turkish ID Cards of Persons in the Tourism and Hospitality Sector dated 06/11/2025 and numbered 2025/2120 was published in the Official Gazette.

The widespread practice of tourism operators requesting photocopies of Turkish ID cards from individuals receiving accommodation services will now come to an end in accordance with this precedent.

Additionally, Turkish ID documents that were previously been recorded by means of photocopying prior to this ruling must also be destroyed in accordance with Article 7 of the Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698.

The accuracy of the information provided by guests can now only be verified by comparing it with physical identification, and that the person's identity cannot be recorded.
