Patents are granted for 15 years. Once a patent application is filed, the Registrar examines it as to form and content and notifies the applicant of receiving the application within 10 days. A relevant notice is published in the Official Gazette. In the absence of opposition, the certificate of registration will be issued.

No taxes are to be paid to maintain a patent registration in force, at the present moment. Working of a patent is compulsory, and in the absence of the working of a patent, a compulsory license may be issued . The assignment of patent rights is possible, but it should be recorded with the Patent Office in order to be effective against third parties.

A patent application should be submitted to the Registrar of Patents within one year from the filing date abroad.

Although the implementing regulations for the Patents has not been issued, the Registrar of patents has allowed the filing of patents.
