The Israeli Privacy Protection Authority, Antitrust Authority, and Consumer Protection Authority published a joint opinion paper in which they recommend the establishment of a statutory right to data portability.

The authorities support the codification of individuals' right to obtain a copy of the data collected about them by organizations in a commonly acceptable format that will facilitate its transfer and use by other third parties. The authorities explain that the right to data portability gives individuals greater control of their personal data and is expected to increase competition in digital markets. The authorities also believe it will increase individuals' trust and encourage them to provide more information, which will in turn contribute to more innovative developments.

The authorities propose that the right to data portability be provided free of charge only with regard to personally identifiable digital information, and only with regard to information collected from individuals, rather than any subsequent processing and inferences drawn from such information. The authorities also propose to establish standards for data portability in certain sectors whose operations are based on the collection and processing of such data.
