Deris anti-counterfeiting team has acted against approximately 30.000 counterfeit products on behalf of one client, a well-known global technology company, in the last two years.

Most of the criminal actions and the Customs seizures took place in Istanbul, which is known as a critical region for the counterfeit market because of its geopolitical position. Operations against counterfeiters also took place from East to West of Turkey i.e., Izmir, Kocaeli, Yalova, Ankara, Sivas, Malatya, Diyarbakir, Sanliurfa, Gaziantep and Manisa.

Customs seizures, criminal actions, and raid operations were simultaneously and continuously conducted to raise awareness against infringement among the infringers in the electronic market. In line with the client's instructions, Deris took more than 60 actions against the counterfeiters in terms of anti-counterfeiting regarding the client's well-known trademark and details can be find here below:

  • As anti-counterfeit on-site operations, Deris anti-counterfeiting team has attended numerousraid operations in and out of Istanbul together with the police forces. During those raid operations, approximately 1.215 pieces of infringing products (battery, charger, phone cover, phone screen, phone case, touch screen) bearing the client's well-known trademark were seized.
  • Deris received more than 50 notifications from the customs directorates, regarding approximately 26.784 pieces of infringing products (mobile phone, battery, charger, phone cover, phone screen, phone case, touch screen, headphones) bearing the client's well-known trademark. Upon notifications, more than 25 criminal complaints have been filed against these notifications as per the client's instructions.
  • Deris also attended simultaneous evidential actions as part of his fighting against counterfeiting. As a result of the evidential actions, approximately 5.840 pieces of infringing products (phone cases, battery, charger, headphones, phone screen, data cable, car charger, earphones, screen protector) bearing the client's well-known trademark have been determined.
  • Also, several UDRP (Uniform Domain-Name Dispute-Resolution Policy) complaints have been filed as part of online measures and Deris accomplished results in favor of the client in these files in relation to the resolution of disputes regarding the registration of internet domain names.

The outcome of the above operations is not only pleasing with the current numbers of seized counterfeits, but also can be evaluated as very successful considering that we took the lead in bringing down a large-scale network of counterfeiters in the electronics sector. These actions created a great impact in the market to deter infringers from selling/export the goods bearing the client's trademarks.

In addition, it was seen that because of our successful raid operations, the number of counterfeit products on the market decreased, the client's market share increased, and the counterfeiters tried to shuffle off the products. We have also observed that our client has started to give instructions even for a small number of seized products, with the motivation of the outcome of our successful cases and operations, while previously only giving orders in higher numbers. This situation is promising in terms of combating widespread counterfeiting activities in Turkey.
