Forbes/International Living has announced that Malta has featured sixth in the index of the best places to retire for Americans. Malta and Spain are the two European countries who feature at the top of this list, with Spain ahead of Malta. Top of the list is Ecuador due to the low cost of property and benefits the government of Ecuador has afforded to retirees.
The factors taken into consideration were the island's year-round climate, its world-class health care (consistently ranked among the top five in the world by the World Health Organization) and cost of living amongst other.
Malta also ranked high due to the low crime rate, the use of the English language, its culture and history, and geographical location.
