Haseltine Lake Kempner LLP and HL Kempner PartmbB (together HLK) are pleased to announce that Nicole Ockl has been appointed partner of HLK.
Nicole joined HLK in June 2019 as a German lawyer (Rechtsanwältin), specialising in IP Law, to set up and lead the firm's German trade mark and litigation capability. Her initial objective was to continue the provision of EUIPO services from Munich and then expand and develop the range of German IP services for the firm's Trade Mark and Litigation clients, as well as those of the wider business.
Her appointment coincided with the transfer of responsibility for EUIPO filings, which has been a tremendous success for the firm. In spite of the challenges imposed by Covid, the number of EU trade mark filings has risen considerably in the first 'post-transition' year.
As well as overseeing the handling of the new EUIPO work, Nicole has successfully built up a body of German legal work in particular in relation to trademarks, copyright, unfair competition and trade secrets, acting for a number of the firm's key clients.
Nicole has also played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the HLK Trade Mark and Litigation team, which is now ranked 6th in terms of the overall size of UK trade mark portfolios represented by UK firms, according to Clarivate data.
