Share The Road: Driving EHR Contracts To Good Compromises

An EHR is not a car. That may sound obvious, but the car metaphor seems to have a reserved parking space in our minds when we negotiate EHR contracts. For example, a health care provider recently told me that an EHR vendor's contract terms were equivalent to buying four wheels, an engine and a frame, but with no guarantee that those pieces will work together as a car. While the car metaphor has its shortcomings, it's a useful tool for discussing key issues in EHR contracts. Steve Blumenthal will use that framework to describe key EHR contract provisions in plain English and explain both vendors' and customers' concerns about those provisions.

About the Speaker:

Steve Blumenthal is a business and corporate law attorney in Nashville, Tennessee. His practice includes both traditional commercial transactional work and innovative Internet, technology and data privacy work. He has authored articles for The Wall Street Journal and ACC Docket and presented on topics for groups such as the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities. He graduated from the University of Virginia Law School and currently serves on the board of directors for the Better Business Bureau of Middle Tennessee.
