LOS ANGELES (January 27, 2020) – Lewis Roca Rothgerber Christie LLP announced Steven J. French and Kurt S. Prange have joined the firm's Los Angeles office as associates in the Intellectual Property practice group.

Steven French focuses on patent prosecution, providing clients assistance in all stages of obtaining a patent, including drafting applications, revising foreign applications for filing in the United States, and responding to Office actions by the United States Trademark and Patent Office. With a background in physics and mathematics, French has the technical abilities needed to effectively prosecute patent applications in a variety of fields, including electronics, photonics, mechanics, chemistry, and software, and in particular display devices, sensor technology, batteries, optical waveguides and modulators, hydraulics, and medical devices.

French received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Pepperdine University School of Law, Order of the Coif, and served as Literary Citation Editor for the Pepperdine Law Review. During law school, he also served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Barbara A. McAuliffe (U.S. District Court, Eastern District of California). He received his B.S., summa cum laude, from California State University, Fresno.

Kurt Prange focuses on patent and trademark prosecution and has experience drafting patent and trademark applications, drafting responses to Office actions, and amending patent claims. He also has experience drafting litigation memos and discovery documents.

While attending the University of Colorado Law School, Prange served as an extern at the Rocky Mountain Regional United States Patent and Trademark Office, where he examined patent applications (in the fields of semiconductors, electrophotography, and business methods) and drafted Office actions rejecting claims. He served as a member of the Colorado Technology Law Journal and was a student attorney for the Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, where he helped startup clients with transactional work.

Prior to attending law school, Prange worked with embedded systems as an Electrical Engineer in the rail transit industry and, later, with analog circuits as a Sales Engineer in the musical instrument industry. Prange received his J.D. from the University of Colorado Law School and his B.S. from Michigan State University.
