The National Law Journal has named Jones Day partner Lauri Sawyer to the inaugural list of Equality Trailblazers. Through the various Trailblazers special supplements, NLJ recognizes movers and shakers in the legal industry who have made an impact in their sector through new types of strategies or innovative court cases.
A tireless advocate for equal access to justice, Ms. Sawyer has long been committed to the representation of vulnerable groups, including victims of domestic violence and refugees.
Among her many achievements as a key leader of Jones Day's pro bono initiatives, Ms. Sawyer spearheads a program between Jones Day's New York Office and pro bono organization Her Justice, through which lawyers represent women in need of matrimonial and immigration services. Under her leadership, hundreds of attorneys have been able to assist more than 220 women on almost 400 matters.
Ms. Sawyer's inestimable dedication to pro bono service, and her efforts to engage others in pro bono work, have opened many more opportunities to increase access to the Rule of Law, notably through her work with KIND ("Kids in Need of Defense") and her participation in Jones Day's Laredo Project.
