Deloitte Cyber Risk Services has benefitted from a number of Armed Forces leavers. Ex-military personnel are at all levels and working in all sectors of our team. With an intrinsic understanding of security, strong communications skills and practiced problem-solving capabilities, many Armed Forces leavers naturally have a number of key skills and experience relevant to this industry. The Deloitte UK Cyber Risk Services practice is growing and on the lookout for talented individuals.

In March 2018, Deloitte UK Cyber Risk Services ran an assessment centre specifically aimed at Armed Forces leavers. The purpose was to capture some of the talented and skilled individuals leaving the military and provide them with an opportunity to join our exciting and diverse team.

As a signatory of the Armed Force Covenant, Deloitte is looking for ways to support Armed Forces leavers. The Deloitte Military Transition and Talent Programme (DMTTP) was established in 2012 and successfully supports Armed Forces leavers in their transition to civilian careers. The Deloitte UK Cyber Risk Services practice is growing and on the lookout for talented individuals.  Whether they come with cyber security experience from their military careers or whether they have re-skilled during their transition to civilian life, there is a place in the Deloitte team which will suit their skills and in which we can grow them as Cyber Risk professionals.

With the continued growth of the Deloitte Cyber Risk Services team, it was decided to run a recruitment assessment centre targeted at Armed Forces leavers. This had three aims:

  1. To recruit talented Armed Forces leavers into the Cyber Risk Services Team
  2. To give Armed Forces leavers a constructive, challenging and positive recruitment experience
  3. To assist Armed Forces leavers in their transition into civilian life

These aims were achieved over two days, the first day focussing on the concerns of applicants about their transition into a civilian career and then having all applicants conduct a group assessment. The second day consisted of interviews for all candidates enabling the Deloitte team to make decisions on which candidates would be offered a job.  Candidates were provided with feedback throughout the process; where they were not successful in this assessment centre, they will be able to adapt their approach for future interviews.

An approachable and honest atmosphere was encouraged throughout the process which allowed applicants to feel comfortable asking the questions which were most important to them at this turbulent time in their lives and careers. The Deloitte team provided examples of their transitions from military careers and from other civilian careers as well as giving candidates a view of what the job of a Cyber Risk professional entails.

At the end of the two days, seven jobs were offered to the successful applicants. Those who were not offered jobs were given comprehensive feedback and the offer of support from the Deloitte Cyber Risk Services team through their transition.

Further details of future assessment centres and future DMTTP Insight Days will be available through the Career Transition Partnership (CTP). For the next assessment centre you can apply here
