Lowenstein Sandler has announced the continued expansion of its Investment Management & Private Funds Group with the addition of Brendan R. Kalb and Nachman “Nathan” Calko.

Kalb joins Lowenstein from ExodusPoint Capital Management, where he served as Global General Counsel, while Calko joins from Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.

Kalb has more than 25 years of experience as a leader in the private funds industry, including most recently at ExodusPoint Capital Management, and prior to that as the General Counsel at AQR Capital Management and at other leading law firms. Kalb advises investment advisers on all aspects of their business and operations, including legal, regulatory, and compliance functions, as well as design, development, and management of investments funds encompassing a wide variety of structures and investment strategies.

Calko has nearly ten years of experience representing sponsors in the formation, structuring, and operation of private investment funds across a wide range of strategies, including private equity, credit, secondaries, continuation, infrastructure, and real estate, as well as a variety of co-investment structures and separately managed accounts.

Robert G. Minion, partner and Chair of Lowenstein's Investment Management & Private Funds Group, says: “Brendan and Nathan bring a great combination of in-house and law firm experience that aligns perfectly with the needs of today’s asset managers. Brendan has spent much of his career leading the legal, regulatory, and compliance functions at some of the industry’s most sophisticated investment platforms, and Nathan brings deep private funds structuring and formation experience. Together, they further strengthen our ability to provide practical, commercially focused legal advice and services to our clients across the entire investment management community.”

Kalb noted: “I've spent much of my career building and supporting the legal and compliance infrastructure that enables fund managers to grow and operate efficiently in our highly regulated industry. Lowenstein's deep investment management practice, entrepreneurial spirit, and pragmatic approach to client service made the firm a natural fit for me.”

Calko stated: “Lowenstein's fund formation platform is one of the most active and well-respected in the market. I was drawn to the firm’s collaborative culture, sophisticated client base, and strong platform for private funds.”

Kalb received his J.D. from Cornell Law School and his B.A. in International Relations and Economics, magna cum laude, from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Futures Association and has served on the Founder’s Council of the Managed Funds Association.

Calko received his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law, where he received the Archibald R. Murray Public Service Award, and his B.T.L. from Ner Israel Rabbinical College.
