Blaneys Entertainment Partner Divya Shahani, who serves on the SASO Canada advisory committee, recently spoke on a panel at the launch of the SASO National Research Project in Toronto.

Hosted at Toronto Metropolitan University on March 6, 2026, the event brought together leaders from across Canada's screen industry for an important conversation about South Asian representation in film and television. The launch marked a milestone for the South Asian Screen Office of Canada (SASO Canada) and its new national research initiative, which is focused on better understanding and strengthening South Asian participation across the country's screen sector.

As part of the event, Divya joined fellow advisors to the research project on the panel "Narrative Sovereignty and the Future of South Asian Storytelling." The discussion examined authorship, representation, and the need for South Asian creators to help shape the stories being told within Canada's media and entertainment industries.

The SASO National Research Project aims to generate the first coordinated national evidence base on South Asian participation across Canada's screen ecosystem, with research examining representation on screen, behind the camera, and in leadership roles.

We are pleased to see Divya contribute her insight to this important conversation.
