Senior Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer partner Peter Jones will relocate to the firm's Singapore office from 1 May to lead the firm's Asia Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) practice.
Peter will oversee and expand the firm's regional TMT offering, which supports clients across technology and digital infrastructure transactions, projects and disputes, commercial contracts, and outsourcing and technology procurement.
Currently based in Sydney, Peter has over 30 years of legal experience across Asia Pacific, including extensive work in Japan, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.
He also has significant expertise in cyber preparedness, resilience, simulations and incident response, and will be engaging closely with clients on these critical risk areas.
"Today's technology and digital infrastructure landscape demands legally rigorous, commercially grounded advice on transactions and projects, regulatory challenges and disputes, and mission critical technology contracts," said Asia Managing Partner Graeme Preston.
"Peter's deep experience and knowledge of the Asia market makes him the perfect choice to lead our team to support clients as they navigate this transformation."
Over his career, Peter has acted for many leading Asian corporates and technology players, including PCCW, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), Singtel, Vodafone Japan and XL Axiata. He has also advised infrastructure investors in, and providers, of data centres, mobile towers, fibre networks, satellites and submarine cable systems.
"Our clients' technology and data needs are evolving as rapidly as the markets in which they operate," said Peter.
"Asia's unique ecosystem is shaped by global hyperscalers, regional digital champions and fast-growing local innovators, all accelerating demand for support across digital infrastructure transactions, technology-enabled commercial contracts and complex supply chain arrangements.
"This transformation must be managed within an ever-evolving cross-border regulatory landscape and an expanding cyber threat environment. Our practice is built to meet these challenges and to help our clients maximise opportunities."
Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer advises across the full technology client base in Asia, from startups, funds and corporate investors, to major multinationals, financial institutions, national champions and digital infrastructure owners, operators and customers.
"Every industry and jurisdiction in Asia is now deeply affected by rapid technological transformation," said Aaron White, Head of Technology, Media and Telecommunications, Asia and Australia.
"With Peter's leadership, our Asia TMT practice will be strongly positioned to help clients design, build, invest in and regulate the technologies and digital infrastructure that underpin their future growth."
