Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP is pleased to announce the election of Alan R. Shramuk to the firm's partnership, effective January 1, 2026. This elevation reflects his strong track record of excellent legal results and commitment to client service. This milestone reflects his consistent ability to pair technical depth with exceptional client service.

Alan is a member of Marshall Gerstein's Electrical & Computer Technologies team, where he has practiced since joining Marshall Gerstein as a summer associate. He counsels clients on patent prosecution in a wide range of technologies, including electrical engineering, computer hardware and software, communications devices, optoelectronics, optical devices, blockchain, artificial intelligence and machine learning, semiconductors and superconductivity, and 5G systems.

Alan has been recognized among Best Lawyers in America's Ones to Watch in Patent Law, and was previously editor-in-chief of the Chicago-Kent Journal of Intellectual Property. He holds dual undergraduate degrees in electrical and computer engineering, as well as Japanese language and culture, from the University of Rochester, where he received the Donald M. Barnard Prize for excellence in engineering. He also earned a master's degree in optoelectronics and superconductivity from the University of Rochester and his law degree from the Chicago-Kent College of Law at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
