RPJ is delighted to announce that friend and client Alan Berliner will receive the Pennebaker Career Achievement Award at this year's Hamptons Doc Fest, honoring Berliner's many contributions to the art of documentary filmmaking.

Known for his deeply personal yet universally resonant explorations of family, memory, and identity, Berliner has built a body of work that blends archival experimentation, emotional candor, and visual wit. His acclaimed films include Nobody's Business (1996) (watch on Kanopy), Intimate Stranger (1991) (watch on Prime Video), First Cousin Once Removed (2012) (watch on HBO Max), and Letter to the Editor (2019), Berliner's homage to The New York Times. Berliner's newest film, Benita, will be screening at the upcoming DOC NYC Film Festival.

Across his career, Berliner has received awards from the IDA, the Guggenheim Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation, and his films have been shown at major festivals and museums worldwide, including MoMA and the Sundance Film Festival. The Pennebaker Career Achievement Award recognizes his enduring innovation, emotional honesty, and influence on generations of documentary filmmakers.

Berliner's film Benita at DOC NYC will have showings on Friday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. at the IFC Center, and on Sunday, November 16, at 11:30 a.m. at the Village East by Angelika.
