Moore & Van Allen (MVA) played a key role in the successful passage of Mecklenburg County’s 1-cent transportation sales tax referendum, an initiative expected to generate up to $25 billion over the next 30 years to support critical improvements to road, rail, and bus infrastructure across the region.

Over the past year and a half, MVA Public Affairs professionals Walter Price, Towers Mingledorff, and Canaan Huie have worked closely with business leaders across Mecklenburg County and members of the North Carolina General Assembly. Their strategic engagement helped secure support from more than 90 percent of the Assembly during the June vote—a remarkable demonstration of unity and shared commitment for the region’s future.

The referendum outlines a clear funding framework: 40 percent dedicated to road projects, up to 40 percent to rail, and at least 20 percent to bus investments. The initiative is among the most significant funding efforts of its kind nationally and is projected to position Charlotte as a leading mobility hub for decades to come.

MVA’s role in the Mecklenburg County Transportation Referendum was featured by The Charlotte Optimist and Business North Carolina.
