Appleby Jersey advised Macquarie Asset Management, via Macquarie European Infrastructure Fund 7, on its acquisition of a 75% ownership stake in London City Airport from the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Alberta Investment Management Corporation and OMERS.
London City is the capital's most central airport, providing excellent transportation links to the city's two financial districts, the City of London and Canary Wharf. London City airport handles more than 3.5 million passengers per year and serves around 30 leisure and business destinations across the UK and Europe, employing some 2,000 staff on site.
The Appleby team was led by partner Andrew Weaver and senior associate Dan Richardson, with support from associate Inyeneobong Udoh.
Andrew said: "Working closely with the client's other advisors, the deal balances commercial opportunity with long-term compliance and governance considerations. It's not every day that you get to shape the future of a key national asset – and knowing that the Appleby team's contribution played an important part is greatly rewarding."
