Groom celebrates that Senior Actuarial Advisor, Joshua Shapiro, has been named the President-Elect of the Conference of Consulting Actuaries (“CCA”). The CCA is a professional association that brings together actuaries who provide consulting services across areas such as pensions, health care, insurance, and investments. It serves as a community for its approximately 1,500 members to exchange ideas, stay current on industry developments, and strengthen their technical and professional skills. The organization also plays an important role in promoting high ethical standards and advancing thought leadership within the actuarial profession.
Shapiro brings years of substantive experience to counsel multiemployer, single-employer, and governmental retirement plans, including working with a wide range of organizations to ensure that their retirement programs meet their financial and human resources objectives while complying with the applicable laws and Internal Revenue Service, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, and Department of Labor regulations.
Shapiro, who joined Groom in 2015, previously served as the Deputy Director for Research and Education at the National Coordinating Committee for Multiemployer Plans. In this role, he was a principal member on the team that spearheaded the legislative effort that resulted in the passage of the Multiemployer Pension Reform Act of 2014. Since joining Groom, Shapiro has continued to work closely with legislators and their staffs regarding the need for additional multiemployer pension reform.
