Global law firm K&L Gates has acted as lead counsel to international bank MUFG Bank Ltd. on a US$100 million green loan facility extended to VinFast, a pioneering electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer and a member of Vingroup, one of Vietnam's largest conglomerates focusing on technology, industrials, real estate, infrastructure, and green energy.

The transaction marks MUFG's first collaboration with VinFast and reflects a strategic commitment to supporting sustainable growth in the EV sector. The loan also marks the beginning of their long-term relationship to advance green transformation goals and unlock future development in the rapidly growing EV industry. The facility's proceeds will be used to bolster VinFast's expansion in key markets across Asia, as well as for continued innovation in electric mobility.

Takao Nozaki, MUFG Managing Director, Regional Head of Vietnam, stated: "Our partnership with VinFast aligns with MUFG's strategic priorities in promoting net-zero cooperation, supporting the green transition and the growth of clean energy solutions globally. We look forward to seeing VinFast's continued success and are proud to be part of their journey towards a sustainable future."

The K&L Gates team was led by Singapore partner Duc Nguyen with support from legal executive Dat Le.

Nguyen stated: "We are proud to have advised MUFG on this landmark green loan facility, which supports VinFast's bold vision for electrification and global growth. The transaction reflects a strong commitment from both parties to driving the green transition in Vietnam and beyond. It was a privilege to support MUFG in structuring a facility aligned with global green loan principles, and we look forward to the positive environmental and commercial impact this partnership will deliver."

The transaction highlights K&L Gates' deep experience in cross-border finance, sustainable lending, and the rapidly evolving clean energy and mobility sectors in Asia.
