Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman (CLL) attorneys recently participated in three major international intellectual property conferences this month.
On September 8, CLL attorneys Avanthi Cole, Paige Geier, and John Miranda represented CLL at the Copyright Society's 2025 Copyright + Technology Conference at Fordham University School of Law in New York City. Now in its sixteenth year, the event tackled cutting-edge topics such as AI training opt-out schemes, copyright registration of AI-augmented works, and streaming fraud. Avanthi, Paige, and John advise clients across diverse industries on a broad range of intellectual property matters and regularly contribute to the Annual Review of Copyright Decisions published each year in the Journal of the Copyright Society.
From September 13–16, Maria Scungio represented CLL at the 2025 AIPPI World Congress in Yokohama, Japan. The flagship event of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) brought together global experts to discuss pressing issues in patents, trademarks, copyright, and design protection, with a strong focus on artificial intelligence and emerging technologies. Attendees also contributed to the adoption of AIPPI's 2025 Resolutions, advancing international IP harmonization. Maria has been actively involved with AIPPI for many years. In addition to serving as Vice President, she serves on its US Steering Committee and previously served on its Standing Committee on Trademarks.
From September 16–19, CLL partner Robert English attended the 39th MARQUES Annual Conference in The Hague, Netherlands. Centered on the theme "Brand Changes in an International Context," the conference explored the complexities of cross-border brand protection, sustainability, international M&A, and recent European case law. A regular MARQUES attendee, Robert advises clients on domestic and international trademark prosecution and enforcement, as well as IP-related transactions such as licensing, joint development agreements, and asset purchases. He has represented clients across industries including apparel, software, musical instruments, advertising, beauty, art, and entertainment.
