Smith & Williamson group announces that Richard Mannion of Solomon Hare has won the Lifetime Achievement award at the LexisNexis Taxation Awards 2006.
Richard is a partner and head of tax at Bristol-based Solomon Hare, a member of the Smith & Williamson group. He said:
“I am thrilled to have received this award. For me, tax is far more than just a job. It has a huge impact on people’s lives and finances, and I thoroughly enjoy helping clients through what can often be a maze of complex legislation.”
Richard’s award submission had the support of several respected tax professionals including Sir David Varney, chairman of HM Revenue & Customs.
Sir David said:
“Richard Mannion is a visionary who set out to build a new relationship between practitioners and the tax administration. He had the dedication and commitment to follow through with the idea over several years – and make it a reality and a success... Richard is an outstanding person who richly deserves to win this award.”
Smith & Williamson’s Private Client Tax Services team was also shortlisted for the Best High Net Worth Tax Team award, while its Professional Practices Tax Team was shortlisted in the category of Best Tax Team in a Large Firm.
Kevin Stopps, head of tax, London, at Smith & Williamson, said:
“To win one category and be shortlisted in two others is a fantastic achievement for the firm’s tax departments and one of which we’re extremely proud.”
The LexisNexis Taxation Awards 2006 are now in their sixth year and acknowledge excellence in tax service and achievement.
Smith & Williamson is no stranger to recognition from the Taxation Awards’ panel of judges. Last year the firm won the Best High Net Worth Tax Team award. Its Corporate Tax Team has been shortlisted three times at the awards, while its VAT department has been shortlisted on two earlier occasions.
