Maples and Calder, the Maples Group's law firm, is pleased to announce the appointment of Kelvan Cheung, a senior corporate lawyer in its Hong Kong office. Kelvan's addition deepens the firm's bench strength in high-value cross-border corporate, capital markets and financing mandates, reinforcing the Maples Group's commitment to providing market-leading advice to clients across Asia-Pacific, particularly China.

Kelvan brings more than 15 years of experience advising public and private companies, financial sponsors and investment banks on the full spectrum of corporate transactions, with a particular focus on complex mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, pre-IPO restructuring and financing, joint ventures, reorganisations and corporate governance. He is highly regarded for his work on capital markets matters, including initial public offerings, secondary offerings, preferred share financings, special purpose acquisition companies ("SPACs") and take-private transactions. In addition, Kelvan regularly advises on debt capital markets transactions and general corporate lending structures, giving clients a holistic perspective across the capital stack.

Prior to joining the Maples Group in Summer 2025, Kelvan was a partner with leading international firms Jingtian & Gongcheng LLP, and Deacons in Hong Kong, where he advised numerous PRC enterprises on landmark capital markets transactions. His extensive experience working with Chinese clients has given him invaluable insight into the regulatory landscape and commercial drivers that shape their cross-border activities. His track record of success has earned him widespread industry recognition; he was named a "Top 40 Under 40 Lawyer" by Asian Legal Business in 2016 and has been consistently ranked as a "Notable Practitioner" in the Capital Markets: Equity category by IFLR1000 from 2019 through 2024.

Commenting on Kelvan's appointment, Matt Roberts, Head of Asia Corporate practice, said: "We are delighted to welcome Kelvan to the team. His sophisticated understanding of both equity and debt capital markets, coupled with his deep experience advising on complex corporate finance transactions, makes him an ideal fit for our growing practice. Kelvan's arrival underscores our strategic commitment to offering clients unparalleled service in China and throughout the wider Asia-Pacific region."

Kelvan added: "I am excited to join the Maples Group, whose global platform and collaborative culture align seamlessly with my practice and professional ambitions. I look forward to working alongside my new colleagues to deliver practical, commercial solutions that help our clients achieve their strategic objectives in an increasingly dynamic marketplace."

The Maples Group continues to invest in talent and resources across its global offices to meet rising client demand for sophisticated legal counsel. Kelvan's appointment follows a series of strategic hires that have further strengthened the Group's legal capabilities in key financial centres worldwide.
