The partnership involves a A$500 million investment by KKR to support the development of CleanPeak Energy's pipeline of energy transition projects.
Australian owned developer and operator of energy transition infrastructure, CleanPeak Energy, has entered a strategic partnership with private equity firm KKR. The partnership involves a A$500 million investment by KKR to support the development of CleanPeak Energy's pipeline of energy transition projects.
Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer (HSF Kramer) advised CleanPeak Energy on the deal, led by partners Amit Jois and David Ryan.
Amit Jois said the deal will support the scaling of CleanPeak's operations and the expansion of its portfolio of distributed energy assets.
"This investment will accelerate CleanPeak's energy transition strategy. This includes the delivery of solar, battery and storage systems to help its clients meet their own energy transition goals, and reduce energy costs.
"It was fantastic to work alongside the CleanPeak Energy founders Philip Graham and Jon Hare, and the broader CleanPeak Energy team, to support its large-scale renewables ambition."
The HSF Kramer team advising on the matter also included partner Jinny Chaimungkalanont, senior associates Katherine Wright and Mark Peters and solicitor Javier Cross.
The deal is another example of HSF Kramer's market-leading energy transition work, including acting for:
- APG on its proposed investment into Octopus Australia.
- AGL on the acquisition of a network of residential solar and Powerwall home battery systems, known as South Australia's Virtual Power Plant (SAVPP) from Tesla this month.
- The international syndicate of lenders on the A$750 million green portfolio financing for ACEN Australia's clean energy projects
- HMC Capital on its A$950 million acquisition of the Neoen Victorian renewable energy portfolio
- EnergyAustralia on its development of the 350 MW / 1400 MWh Wooreen Battery Energy Storage System in the Latrobe Valley, Victoria
- the syndicate of lenders on the project financing of Eku Energy's 250MW/500MWh Big Canberra Battery energy storage project
- the lenders on the financing of Akaysha Energy's Ulinda Park BESS project
