B&D proudly represented Agoro Carbon Alliance in closing one of the largest long-term soil carbon credit deals to date — a 12-year offtake agreement with a major technology company for the delivery of 2.6 million carbon removal credits. This transaction marks a milestone in the voluntary carbon market, reinforcing the growing role of nature-based solutions in corporate climate strategies.
Supporting High-Integrity Climate Action
The Agoro Carbon Alliance partners with farmers and ranchers to adopt climate-friendly regenerative practices such as cover cropping and rotational grazing. These practices capture carbon in the soil while enhancing agricultural resilience, biodiversity, food security, and water retention. Based on these carbon benefits, Agoro facilitates the issuance of carbon credits under Verra's VM0042 Improved Agricultural Land Management methodology.
Through this agreement, Agoro solidifies its position as a leader in U.S. soil carbon project development and furthers its mission to decarbonize agriculture at scale.
Accelerated Execution on a Pivotal Transaction
Under the leadership of Principal Brook Detterman, and with support from Senior Associate Jack Zietman, B&D has represented Agoro for several years. During that time, B&D helped Agoro navigate the complexities and commercial agreements underpinning large, distributed soil carbon project development while positioning the project for commercial success.
In 2025, the B&D team, including Brook Detterman, Senior Associate Astrika Adams and Associates Ryan Andrée and Joseph Ruggiero, provided transactional counsel throughout an intensive negotiation period, culminating in the successful closing of this landmark agreement.
"This deal demonstrates the strength of our climate and transactional practices, particularly in the growing environmental commodities and carbon markets sectors," said Brook Detterman. "We're proud to help clients like Agoro drive meaningful progress on climate while achieving strong commercial results."
