STAMFORD, Conn. (May 8, 2025) – Holland & Knight has strengthened its market-leading International Trade Group with the addition of well-known trade practitioners Tahlia Townsend and Daniel Goren as partners in its Stamford office.

"Tahlia and Dan represent integral building blocks for our team, contributing enhanced capabilities and prestige to an already-strong export controls and sanctions practice," said Ron Oleynik, co-head of the Firm's International Trade Group.

"Tahlia and Dan's robust client base across a variety of industries, including the defense and national security sectors, creates strong synergies with our existing practice. We are thrilled to welcome them to Holland & Knight," said Robert Friedman, co-head of the Firm's International Trade Group.

Ms. Townsend and Mr. Goren advise a wide range of U.S. and international companies on compliance with U.S. export controls, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR), U.S. financial sanctions administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) and U.S. foreign investment regulations administered by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS). They provide a full spectrum of trade compliance services, including high-stakes investigations, disclosures and defense against government enforcement actions. Their experience extends to global mergers and acquisitions (M&A) due diligence, preparation of notifications to CFIUS, complex product classifications, licensing and the design and implementation of effective compliance programs.

Their additions to the International Trade Group follow that of Partner Christopher Stagg, who joined Holland & Knight's Tysons, Virginia, office in December.

"I am delighted to join the excellent International Trade Group at Holland & Knight and to offer my clients access to the Firm's extensive platform and resources, including its Tariff Task Force, its leading government contracts and government relations practices and its international offices," said Ms. Townsend. "The Firm's entrepreneurial, approachable and client-focused culture will be a great fit for my clients. I look forward to contributing to its dynamic trade team."

Ms. Townsend's clients include major global defense and aerospace companies, international financial institutions, global hi-tech and electronics manufacturers, (re)insurers, venture capital and private equity firms, law firms, news media, universities and foreign sovereign entities. She is consistently recognized in the Chambers USA and Chambers Global guides for International Trade: Export Controls & Economic Sanctions. Ms. Townsend received a J.D. degree from Yale Law School and an undergraduate degree in physics and chemistry.

"Holland & Knight is highly regarded for its deep bench and has earned a well-deserved reputation for first-rate client service," Mr. Goren said. "I am excited to join a vibrant and growing firm that encourages teamwork and business development and look forward to working with my new colleagues."

Mr. Goren works with a broad range of clients, such as cutting-edge emerging technology companies, large electronics manufacturers and Fortune 50 aerospace and defense contractors. He has conducted hundreds of internal investigations into potential violations of U.S. export and trade sanctions controls and has extensive experience preparing voluntary disclosures and designing and implementing responsive and pragmatic corrective actions. In addition, Mr. Goren brings vast experience in guiding clients through highly technical export classifications across a broad range of product categories, including cryptographic or cryptanalytic products, aerospace components, electronics and space-related items. He has also advised international banks and leading management consulting firms on complex U.S. economic sanctions issues. Mr. Goren co-teaches a course on International Trade Compliance at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he received a J.D. degree. Mr. Goren also received an M.S. degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism and a B.A. degree from Dartmouth College.
