NEW YORK (April 22, 2025) - AlixPartners, the global consulting firm, today announced that David Makol has joined the firm, expanding its Investigations, Compliance & Privacy practice. David brings 25 years of experience investigating complex securities frauds, including financial frauds, securities transactions, insider trading, market abuse, cyber hacking, and other violations of the federal securities laws related to trading and financial reporting.
Collaborating with SEC personnel, U.S. criminal authorities, and international law enforcement and regulators, David has been instrumental in ensuring comprehensive and efficient investigations. David was a key contributor to the development of the SEC’s Market Abuse Unit, and critical in growing the U.S. Attorney Office’s insider trading and financial crime programs in Boston in addition to the Securities Fraud Unit in the Southern District of New York. He was involved in the investigation and prosecution of some of the largest public financial crimes of the past two decades.
David, who previously served for over a decade as a Specialist in the SEC’s Market Abuse Unit, joins Trevor Donelan, Matt Jacques, Susan Markel, Brad Mroski, Dustin Ruta, and Justin Sutherland—all of whom served in senior roles in the SEC’s Enforcement Division. Prior to his time at the SEC, David spent 13 years at the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and joins AlixPartners colleagues James Bucknam, Louie Freeh, Lisa Osofsky, and Michael Welch, all of whom served in senior roles at the FBI.
David's dedication to the field of securities fraud investigation has earned him numerous awards, including the Directors Award for Superior Performance by a Litigation Team and the United States Attorney’s Office FBI Service Award.
David holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance from Boston University and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from the University of Massachusetts.
“David’s extensive background with the SEC and the FBI, combined with his proven track record in investigations and litigations, uniquely positions him to help our clients navigate evolving and complex regulatory challenges,” said Louis Dudney, Global Leader – Investigations, Disputes and Risk. “We are thrilled he has joined our deep bench of former regulators and law enforcement professionals who are the go-to experts for top law firms and corporates to help with their most critical issues.”
In addition to David, Partners Mark Farrar and Wing Wong have joined AlixPartners’ Investigations, Compliance & Privacy practice this year, continuing our growth and investment in experts who are known and respected in the industry.
