United States

We are thrilled to congratulate our former partner and longtime friend, Randel Johnson, on his recent appointment to the U.S. Department of Labor’s Administrative Review Board (ARB) . No stranger to ARB he served as judge from August of 2020 to June of 2022 This new role reflects his deep experience in labor and employment law and his commitment to fair decision-making in workplace matters. For many years, Randy played a key role in shaping labor and employment policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, where he served as senior vice president for Labor Immigration & Employee Benefits. More recently, he brought his expertise to Cornell Law School as a fellow, teaching immigration law as a visiting scholar and writing on reasonable, targeted immigration reform proposals as well as the Rule of Law and immigration enforcement.

What is the Administrative Review Board (ARB)?

The ARB plays a critical role in reviewing and deciding cases arising under a variety of worker protection laws, including whistleblower protections, wage and hour disputes, immigration-related employment matters, and federal contract labor standards. The Board issues final agency decisions on appeals of administrative law judge determinations, shaping how labor laws are interpreted and enforced.

Randy’s appointment to the ARB is well deserved, and we have no doubt that his experience and judgment will serve the Board and the public exceptionally well. We are proud to have worked alongside him and look forward to seeing the impact he will make in this new capacity.

For more details on Randy’s appointment and the work of the ARB, visit the Department of Labor’s announcement.
