As a Champion, the Firm reaffirms its dedication to the principle that organizations share the responsibility of being conscientious stewards of personal information, fostering trust and transparency in how data is handled.

"At Ward and Smith, we believe that respecting data privacy is not just a best practice but a fundamental responsibility in today's interconnected world."

About Data Privacy Week

Data Privacy Week is an expanded initiative derived from Data Privacy Day, taking place from January 27 to January 31, 2025. The campaign aims to spread awareness about online privacy among individuals and organizations. Its mission is twofold: to empower individuals to take control of their personal data and to encourage organizations to adopt transparent and respectful data-handling practices. In North America, the National Cybersecurity Alliance leads the annual effort to raise awareness and educate the public about cybersecurity and privacy.

Take Control of Your Data

Every online interaction leaves a trail of data. Websites, apps, and services collect vast amounts of information, including personal details like Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, and even health data from devices like smartwatches. While you may not have complete control over how all your data is shared and processed, you can take steps to safeguard your personal information:

  • Limit Data Sharing: Be selective about who you share your data with. Understand the terms and conditions of the platforms you use.
  • Adjust Privacy Settings: Use the privacy settings on websites, apps, and devices to limit the amount of data collected about you.
  • Secure Your Accounts: Use strong, unique passwords and enable multi-factor authentication to protect your online accounts.
