Lowenstein Sandler has announced that Amy S. Mushahwar has joined the firm as partner and Chair of its Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice. She will be based in the firm's rapidly growing Washington, D.C. office.

With more than 20 years of experience in the technology space as both legal counsel and entrepreneur, Mushahwar is highly skilled in handling intricate data security, cyber risk, privacy, and emerging technology issues on a national scale. In addition to helping organizations manage breaches, she collaborates closely with emerging companies to embed robust cybersecurity designs from the onset, so that data hygiene becomes an integral part of a company's culture and a key aspect of its market appeal.

Mark P. Kesslen, Chair of the firm's Intellectual Property Group, says: "Not only does Amy possess a wealth of knowledge about how to navigate digital transformation, but she has been a pioneer in facing some of biggest challenges of tomorrow arising from Big Data, AI, and the Dark Web." He adds: "Her deep understanding of proactive data security practices, incident responses, and regulatory compliance is unparalleled, and her experience with managing security incidents, liaising with federal and state agencies, and designing post-incident remediation plans, will make her an invaluable asset to our clients."

Mary J. Hildebrand, CIPP/US/E, partner, founder, and Chair Emeritus of the Privacy & Cybersecurity practice, says: "Amy's stellar credentials will further enhance Lowenstein's reputation in the nation's capital and beyond for representing both cutting-edge startups and Fortune 500 companies seeking ways to not only mitigate the risk of cyber breaches, but to prevent their occurrence from the start."

"Cyber is so much more than breaches," says Mushahwar. "My practice integrates well with Lowenstein's sophisticated work on behalf of innovative emerging companies; together we can help startups incubate cybersecurity from the very beginning of the company life cycle, instead just reacting after an incident." She adds: "I'm thrilled to join the innovative and entrepreneurial culture at Lowenstein, and I especially look forward to collaborating with many of the powerhouse women lawyers in the firm's D.C. office."

Lowenstein Sandler's Data, Privacy & Cybersecurity practice helps clients navigate the rapidly evolving, increasingly complex privacy and security law landscape in the United States, the EU, and around the world. Its cross-disciplinary practice draws on the extensive knowledge and experience of lawyers in the firm's Employment, Employee Benefits, Insurance, Bankruptcy, Intellectual Property, and Litigation practices experienced across diverse industries, such as health care, retail, professional services, communications, financial services, advertising, and entertainment.
